The Latest News From the GBHS Class of 1962

January-March, 2018

Happy New Year. I hope 2018 is a healthy one for all. Happy and prosperous too. There’s a couple of things going on later this year you may want to know about.

First, the 24th annual Glen Burnie Armory Teen Center reunion is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 at La Fountaine Bleu in Glen Burnie. Hours are 7:00pm to 11.00pm. Music is by DJ Al Parker and the cost is $48.00 per person. Admission price includes beer, wine, and buffet. Carol and I go to this every year and it’s always been a great event. We almost always run into people we don’t usually see at class or multi-year reunions. We’ll have a table there.

Later this spring, I’d like to put together a luncheon for classmates in Maryland. More on that later as to date and location.
On September 15, 2018 the 14th GBHS Multi-Year reunion will happen at Michael’s Eight Avenue. Time, DJ, and cost TBA.
In October several classmates come north from Florida to visit friends and family. This may be another opportunity to get together for lunch.

Please remember to keep us updated about changes in your mailing, email, or phone numbers info. Encourage classmates you see that aren’t on our list to furnish us contact data. Let us know anything you’d like to share with other classmates.

Finally, to start 2018, there is the all too familiar sad news to report.

DesrochersGail Desrochers Ingson passed on December 17, 2017. Obit is on Singleton Funeral Home’s website. Thanks to Diane Schnebelein Martin for passing this info on to me.

Adams Also, just found out Jimmy Adams passed on Dec 29. Don’t know details except he recently received a kidney transplant. Arrangements also are on Singleton’s website.

November-December, 2017

The 55th year reunion for our class is history. 70 classmates and guests gathered for a grand celebration at the Sheraton BWI hotel October 13-15, 2017. The Friday night get together was a hit as it was at our 50th and the Sunday brunch was very well attended, with some local classmates joining us then who could not make the other events. Thanks to all who attended and made this a memorable event. Future plans for reunions were discussed by the committee in our wrap-up meeting on Nov. 10. We talked about a traditional reunion in 2022, but most likely scaled down and less formal, using catering venues like Michael’s Eighth Avenue or La Fountaine Bleu. We may explore combining our reunion with class of 1961. On a smaller scale, and perhaps in addition to a 2022 event, we discussed occasional luncheons in the Anne Arundel County area. Hellas Restaurant in Millersville was mentioned because of its location and easy access to/from I97. Paul Emberger suggested we look at a regional class get together in Florida. Our second most popular resident State among our classmates is Florida. And for folks who don’t live there, it may be a vacation idea along with a class reunion. We will also explore joining the Multi Year reunion in the future for reunion celebrations. We’d like to hear your ideas. We discussed various ways to communicate with class members. Email, Facebook, and other media were mentioned. Please encourage any classmates you are in contact with to share, if they haven’t already done so, their email addresses with us. And for those who are already on our email list PLEASE make us aware of any changes. We’ll continue to keep classmates posted on class news. Let us know anything of general interest you’d like to share with our classmates.
